prepared for gustav

my dear friends & family,

as you've probably heard [or definitely will hear within the next days] hurricane gustav is heading towards us, probably as a cat. 2 or 3 when he arrives. it looks now as if this could be bad for new orleans, but there's the chances that it moves to anywhere within the white cone. the black line is just the center of the cone, it does not show the most likely track. it will hit between the white lines, that's for sure - so far.

matt and me are going to take a 'road trip' by saturday to baton rouge, where - even if a storm comes [and that won't happen before monday or tuesday] - we are safe from both wind and water. his family will follow us by sunday - and will still be ahead of time.

i was well aware of the fact that this might happen before i went to new orleans, but what i didn't know was: hurricanes move slowly! although they have winds up to 200 km/h [categorie 3; like gustav] they move way slower - currently at 7.5 km/h. this means that where ever and when ever it hits, we'll know at least 2 days in advance.

as the odds are quite high that new orleans will be concerned, we will evacuate for sure, just to be sure that we are ahead. and remember: evacuation is a good thing!!

the national hurricane station and weather underground give great information, the centerpoint on the map does not mean, that it's gonna hit!

i'll keep you up-to-date and stay relaxed.
