after receiving an e-mail with pictures attached of the viaduc de millau, the largest bridge in the world, matt and i decided that we wanted to see that some day. but time's precious and who knows what will happen in the future.. we had to do it immediately. we google.mapped an appealing route,..

packed our stuff and.. off we went.

we started our trip to zürich, a beautiful city in switzerland that is supposed to have a nice old town.. which we now are able to agree on. the night was rough as we parked by the train station to be safe; we were, but the noise was extreme, and the car is somewhat too small to be comfortable.

Zürich

that's why we got up early the next morning to go to france..

the great switch..

..to visit lyon, a city we both did not know anything about. luckily, we were surprised by its beauty.

Lyon

the next stop would be the bridge, but little did we know about the way to it. the A75 through the pyrenées the highway with the greatest altitude worldwide.. the landscape is simply stunning. between junctions 45 and 46 the viaduc de millau was built. we spent some hours to enjoy the view and have picnic under the bridge.

A75 - Viaduc de Millau

regardless of how much time we spent there we made it all the way down to marseille.. and even further to a small beach right by toulon to spend the second night more comfortably.

Marseille & Toulon

day no. 3 turned out to be the most beautiful, as we slowly 'lingered' along the côte d'azur to jump into the mediterranean see in cannes, nice ..

Cannes & Nice

..and monaco. this principality with its capital monte carlo not only has nice beaches but the most interesting architecture.. could have spent much more time there.

Monaco

the same day we left, though, to continue to italy to livorno or rather its surroundings. we found a nice little beach in vecchiano to sleep at. we parked the car somewhat away and rested for the next day. in the morning we found the car window smashed.. and our stuff had been searched through. although i had left my purse including our passports, wallets, credit cards etc. in the trunk, the thieve(s), who were bums apparently, just stole the cash (€ 20.00), the bag with the clothes and food.. it seems as they not only had a good heart, but also a strong need for these goods; we somehow did a good deed. although we could almost laugh about the incident we somewhat confused and distracted headed towards bologna, where we almost got lost.

Livorno & Bologna

the city was okay, but matt
especially was really looking forward to venice.. and therefore we left early to go there. i had been there about 15 years ago and honestly did not remember it as beautiful as it actually was. finding the main square was quite an achievement and although we had a map for the way back, it took as a while, too.

Venezia

this being our last stop we contently packed our stuff after a few hours and headed back towards gmunden.
