2009/07/18-21 mountain training

matt & i had bought tickets for a fun event on the traunstein on july 25. only having been hiking a little we had to start our training. the nice thing about hiking is that it doesn't really feel like a workout, but more like spending some nice time together in the beautiful nature.

we started at the traunstein base to head up for the kleinen schönberg and the mairalm, two small routes as a nice warm-up. the first day on the kleinen schönberg was not as easy as originally planned, though. well-organized moni loves well-organized hiking routes, i.e. indicated by austrian flag symbols. we most certainly lost them and instead a nice one-hour hike we crawled through the woods for 2.5 hours.

somewhat exhausting [even more for matt, who had to deal with my nervous breakdown], but it paid off in the end.

mairalm was fine, too - especially as we brought gundi. moreover, we found some baby animals such as snakes, whose life we could safe.

tuesday, july 21 we chose to do a longer hike onto the rinner and even further to the beautiful wildensee. see for yourself on the pictures.

it was so clear that we even had to skinny dip a little.

2009/01/02 austrian birthday celebration

for matt's birthday we made a little trip, to show him some more of the salzkammergut's beauties. therefore we went to the offensee, right by ebensee.

through the woods, literally.

snowy and cold

that's why the lake was frozen

on our way home we came by some icesicles..

pretty, huh?

back home we celebrated matt's turning 29 with my family.. my mom had baked a cake..

..and my dad dressed him up real nice.

welcome to austria!

2008/09/30 offensee in fall

i am really looking forward to school - getting up early, having a schedule to stick to, being all organized and not lost in my thoughts no more. it's weird, but when i don't have no pressure, i do nothing at all.
as i don't wanna become completely lazy, tho, i get up early to read the paper, work on my thesis [more or less successfully] or enjoy nature. fall is lovely, especially at georgeous places like the offensee in ebensee.

again, let the pictures speak for themselves:

i love the colors of the season..

the lake is a great place to chill and organize your thoughts.. barbara and me had some great philosophical time back there.

2008/05/21 historical features

due to matt's not feeling too well we cancelled our hiking plans and made a small trip to ischl - where we visited sisi's and franz' holiday residence: the kaiservilla.

furthermore we certainly had to pass by the famous café zauner to enjoy some fancy cakes.

on our way home we passed by the concentration camp memorial in ebensee.. creepy.
