2009/07/10-14 the real deal

Rome auf einer größeren Karte anzeigen

thanks to matt's friend federico and his lovely family we were able to not only see the roman classics, but also some spots that only locals would know. the centores have been the most wonderful hosts, and i am looking forward to seeing them again soon [maybe in austria?!].

also, the food was incredibly delicious. we managed it to find the most fantastic spots with incredible italian food.. you know, the real deal. and federico even made tiramisu.. in twenty minutes!

the rome trip was not only special, as wonderful federico and his family showed us the best time, but also because it was matt's and my first real holiday together. let's think of it as a great start into more wonderful things!

getting up at 6 o'clock was hard [we were late non-the-less, but i guess this is how it is supposed to be in italy]..

..but the rest of our last day was chillin' a fortiori. i mean, although we had 35°C and the vatican is a really busy place, the vibes there calm you down. especially as we found god.. literally.

the st. peter's basilica once again stunned me [although i saw it for the third time and i am not so much into churches..] with its phantastic architecture and its impressive monuments. the view from its top is also worth the step climbing.

i was even more impressed with the sistine chapel even though is a little packed with people; michelangelo is stunning non-the-less. and the vatican must have invested a whole lot of thoughts into the design of the st. peter's square, as it looks round but is elliptic.
also, their postal service is impressively fast.

before almost missing our flight back home, we [read: matt] discovered an insider [for working people, the mafia.. who knows?] restaurant outside the center of rome. the pizza was so good [and so much] that we packed half of it and flew it back home. incredible!
